Yesterday, we talked about What are the Disadvantages of Making Money Online?(Online Jobs). Today, we will talk about What are the Disadvantages of 9-to-5 Jobs? Like we said in previous articles, no job is all good or all bad. Hence they all have their advantages and their disadvantages. Thats why today we will discuss disadvantages of 9-to-5 jobs.
#1. Lack of Flexibility.
9-to-5 jobs have very fixed work hours. As the name 9-to-5 suggests, you report to work at 9am and work until 5pm when you leave. This means 5 days a week every week of the year, you spend your daytime at work. Actually in some countries, companies make people work even Saturdays. This means 6 days of your week are spent at work. This takes away your time freedom and flexibility.
#2. Commuting Stress.
9-to-5 jobs have workplaces. Others have offices or construction sites where employees have to go. This means you have to travel every day to go to work or office. This causes a lot of inconveniences. One of the stresses of commuting is the fare. You will have to spend money every day to go to work. Similarly, for those who have their own cars, you will have to spend money to fuel your car. In addition to that, you will have to incur other expenses such as car repairs, tire change and other maintenance.
#3. Monotony and Burnout.
Doing same thing the same way every day can become repetitive and uninspiring. Therefore employees may experience burnout due to rigid schedules and heavy workloads. Most of those 9-to-5 jobs involve doing the same things all day every day. For example, people who package goods and products in a distribution plant do the same thing all day every day. Putting products in boxes, folding the boxes and labeling them all day. Repeatedly!! It starts feeling like a robot.
#4. Limited Earning Potential.
9-to-5 jobs have a fixed salary. You know the amount that was on your hiring document is the one you will get at the end of the month. 9-to-5 jobs salaries do not change with time like online jobs. With online jobs, you earn as much as you work. If you work more, you earn more. On the other hand 9-to-5 jobs do not pay you more as you work. They only pay you the fixed salary. You can even work for years and still earn the same salary for years.

#5. Office Politics and Micromanagement.
The thing about workplace or office is being together all day with your colleagues. This breeds politics and other similar problems. Workplace drama and favoritism can impact career growth. There are some people who do backstabbing. Someone might go to your boss and tell him/her bad things about you. Hence messing up your chances of being promoted.
In addition to that, some employers micromanage you and your work. This reduces autonomy and creativity. Creativity and innovation does not thrive under a lot of management from above.
#6. Health Issues.
Most 9-to-5 jobs involve office work. Otherwise, it involves standing in some stores all day doing repetitive work. Sitting for long hours can lead to physical health problems. For example, sitting all day every day can lead to back pain and obesity.
Similarly, standing at one place for a very long time in those factories and stores can lead to leg problems. The biggest problem with the world of today is that people love money more than they love humanity. Hence they have no problem exploiting and abusing their workers.
In addition to all that, mental health can suffer due to stress and lack of personal time.
#7. Work-Life Imbalance.
Like we mentioned in point 1 above, 9-to-5 jobs have very rigid work hours. This goes on for the whole year. Hence you almost never have time for your personal life. Sometimes you might want to attend family events but you cannot. Hence rigid schedules leave little time for hobbies, family and relaxation. You are just like a robot working and working all the time every day.
In addition to that, in even worse conditions, work often extends beyond office hours. Therefore affecting personal life.
#8. Job Security Concerns.
In the corporate world, the company is the most important thing. They will do anything and everything to save the company. This means that they will sacrifice whoever and whatever they need to, to save the company. Hence whenever the company is facing turbulence, the first target of actions is the employees. Whenever there are turbulence they save the company by laying off employees. They also do downsizing of the company to save it from going under.
Hence you as an employee you are not safe. Your job is not safe. You can loose your job at any time when things are not going very well.
#9. Limited Creativity and Growth.
Like we mentioned in point 3 above, most of these 9-to-5 jobs involve repetitive jobs. You work like a robot all day. Doing the same thing repeatedly the whole day. For example if it is customer care, all you do all day is receive phone calls and respond to people all day. Similarly for the customer care on emails. This is the same case for most other 9-to-5 jobs. Hence this repetitive work hampers creativity. You are just working like a robot repeating the same thing all day. Where is the room for creativity in that?
#10. Dependence on a Single Income Source.
If you have been reading this entire article up to this point, there is one pattern that has come up. The 9-to-5 jobs tie you down. They hamper your creativity. They take away a lot of time and they limit you to a fixed work routine. Hence you have no time nor means for building a secondary income stream. You are unable to create a side hustle. Thus you are dependent only on your 9-to-5 job.
Most of these 9-to-5 job employees rely on a fixed paycheck, making financial growth slow. Therefore, losing the job can be financially devastating without additional income streams.
