Previously, we talked about What are the Advantages of 9-to-5 Jobs Over Making Money Online? We also talked about What are the Advantages of Making Money Online Over 9-to-5 Jobs? What about disadvantages? Are there disadvantages of these methods of making money online? The correct answer is yes. There are disadvantages of each. Nothing is all good. As much as there are advantages of these jobs, there are disadvantages too. Hence why today we talk about What are the Disadvantages of Making Money Online? In this case we are referring to Online Jobs. When we talk about making money online we mean online jobs.
So now what are the cons(disadvantages) of making money online?
#1. Unstable Income.
One of the biggest disadvantages or challenges of making money online is unstable income. Yes the online jobs do not guarantee you of a stable income. Sometimes you make money other times you do not. Nothing is guaranteed. To give you a contrast, with the 9-to-5 jobs you are always sure that by the end of the month you will get your salary. However, with online jobs, you are not sure of anything. You can even go for months without making anything.
#2. Scams & Fraud.
The internet is full of scams, fake job offers and get-rich-quick schemes. You know some funny websites promising you quick money doing some unrealistic things. What we can advise you is to to be very careful while looking for money online. You also need to be careful while applying for online jobs. Do not waste your time or money with such scams.
#3. Online Jobs have no Benefits.
If there is one advantage of offline jobs is the fact that there are benefits. People who work for companies in the 9-to-5 jobs enjoy a lot of benefits. Such benefits include health insurance, retirement plans or paid leave. This is contrary to online jobs because online jobs do not provide any benefits. Actually you have no connection nor relationship with the company or people you are working for online. Most of that work is contractual hence no benefits.
#4. High Competition.
If there is one challenge with online jobs is the fact that it is very competitive. There are a few platforms where you can find these online jobs, while there are millions of people hunting for these online jobs. Just think about that, there are say 500 websites that offer online jobs. On the other hand, there are say 200 million people allover the world hunting for online jobs. That’s not all, the number of jobs posted on those 200 websites is say 5000 maximum average. Now imagine the competition for those jobs. What chances do you think you have to get the jobs?
#5. Distractions & Lack of Discipline.
The problem with online jobs is the fact that you can get very easily distracted. You work online from wherever you are. You do not have to be at any office like a 9-to-5 job. Therefore, because of this freedom, you can very easily be distracted. Not unless you are a very self-disciplined person, you can easily fail to meet your deadlines. This is contrary to a 9-to-5 job workplace that brings some discipline with it.
#6. Delayed Payments & Unreliable Clients.
Payments is another problem of online jobs. Actually to be honest, i have also been a victim of this before. I once worked on a website file for a client on freelancer.com and then after i handed in the work to the client, he just copied the files and left. He never paid me nor even acknowledge the work. He just copied the files and ghosted me. Well if you are not careful, you can fall a victim of these kinds of clients. Avoid platforms that do not require deposit/down-payment for the job. This makes sure that the client can pay and is serious about paying.
#7. Technical Issues & Security Risks.
The fact that you work online, means that your work is prone to technical issues and even security risks. For example, if your laptop/desktop has a problem, then it affects your work. Similarly, wifi/internet connectivity issues will also affect your job. On the security side, if there is a hacking or cyberattack, then your works security is compromised.
#8. Mental & Physical Health Concerns.
Working alone for long hours and for so many days can have a lot of effects on your mental health. Not only mental health but also your physical health. Most of the IT workers who sit on their laptops/desktops all day have physical health issues. This is because all they do is just sit all day and do nothing physical. A human body needs physical exercise but an online job has no physical work.
#9. Initial Investment & Learning Curve.
Some online businesses such as dropshipping, blogging and youtube, require time and money before becoming profitable. Things like youtube can take years before you can actually start making money with your channel. They require you to have 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch time hours in the past 1 year. This milestone is not an easy feat and it takes a serious toll on most new youtubers.
#10. Unstable Work-Life Balance.
The 9-to-5 job provides you with a very stable work life balance because work is at workplace and personal life is at home. You do not work from home you only work at workplace. Hence you can be able to separate your work life from your personal life. This is contrary to online jobs because you work from home. Therefore, your work-life mixes with your personal life.
