Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns, lyrics, or prose poetry. A good poem is one that engages the senses and emotions of the reader. It should be something that can be read again and again, and each time, the reader should find new meaning in the words. A poem should be able to take the reader on a journey, to a different place, or to a different time. The poet should have a good command of the language, and be able to create images that are vivid and memorable. The poet should also be able to convey mood and emotion through the use of language.
