I am an online proofreader who has worked for a local business process outsourcing company in Dumaguete, Philippines, for the past 14 years. Because of my long experience with this job, I can be of assistance to writers or authors who are not native speakers of English. I can help these authors express their ideas in a simplified and more readable presentation. I will correct errors in the text (punctuation, spelling, inappropriate words, etc.), identify ambiguous phrases, suggest an alternative presentation that may capture the authors’ ideas better, flag redundant phrases or sentences and contradicting data, and help fine-tune their original work with the goal of truly capturing the message of the author at the same time submitting an elegant article for publishing. As a proofreader, I act as the author’s second pair of eyes. My chief concerns are as follows: • Clarity • Coherence • Consistency • Correctness Through my 14 years of experience, I have gained a good eye and ear for matters of spelling, grammar, syntax, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, and usage. I do not claim to be perfect, however. But even if one can miss errors found in the original document, I demand from myself the following: • Never to introduce an error into correct text • Refrain from inadvertently changing the author’s meaning • Assume that the author(s) is right, until proven otherwise
